Coming soon: 17th SCO France Quarterly Meeting

Published on 23/05/2025
What do oceans, mountains and the atmosphere have in common? Earth observation satellites, of course! From their privileged position, generally between 500 and 600 km above our heads, their sensors take the pulse of all the components of our planet. On Thursday June 19, 2025, log on to the 17th"Trimestrielle du SCO France" to find out how 3 SCO projects are using this data in different environments.

26 of the 50 essential climate variables can only be observed from space. Add to this the fact that no location is inaccessible to satellites, and that much of the data is free of charge, and we have the SCO's raison d'être: to exploit the potential of this accurate, regular data to help territories adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Demonstration on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the 17th Quarterly Meeting of SCO France, with three SCO projects using various satellites, including several in common, to preserve totally different environments and respond to totally different problems!

The day's programme

  • SeSaM: can we anticipate sargassum strandings, which are proliferating as a result of climate change? Thanks to satellite observations and digital modeling, the SeSam project contributes to the management of these invasive algae in all the territories concerned. Its online platform makes it possible to observe the situation in real time and forecast seasonal influxes of Sargassum.
💡  Tackling the scourge of sargassum with SeSaM - April 10, 2025

  • VietSCO Mérimée: How does better rice water management influence greenhouse gas emissions? Mérimée aims to dynamically map rice fields and their continuous or alternate irrigation status. Based on Sentinel satellite data to obtain a spatial and temporal estimate of rice-growing methane emissions in the Mekong Delta, the maps generated are aggregated in the platform predeveloped as part of the VietSCO projects.
💡 VietSCO Mérimée presents its first results in Vietnam - March 31, 2025

  • EO4MountainPastoralism: How does climate change affect high-altitude wetlands and how does it influence agropastoral practices?  The aim of this project is to propose advanced statistical indicators for documenting the evolution of these zones using Sentinel data, with the originality of correlating physical indicators with expected ecosystem services.
