Second steering committee meeting in Abu Dhabi

Published on 16/06/2020
Clearly committed to getting its operations under way quickly, the SCO met again for a second international steering committee meeting on 15 January 2020 in Abu Dhabi.

The members present agreed on an initial version of the "terms of reference" governing the organisation and operations of the SCO worldwide, and also defined a meetings schedule and a digital communication strategy based around a new website and an active presence on social media. The main objective of the session was, however, to share the ongoing and planned national initiatives in the individual member countries. France, India, Sweden, Brazil and China presented their available resources and the difficulties they are facing in establishing their national branch of the SCO.

As the host country representative, the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA) chaired the meeting. Since the UAE have been working on a development strategy for the last few years, focusing in particular on the potential of space tools, the UAESA provides strong and continuous support for the development of the SCO.

Sustainability Week was held in conjunction with this meeting: a week of events and activities organised every year to bring together companies, universities and institutions working to develop sustainable industrial solutions, much like World Efficiency in Paris.
